ABOUT ALLISON

I received my M.Ed. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education along with a minor in English Language Studies from the State University of New York at Oswego. I went on to earn my Masters Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities from Hunter College. While at Hunter, I was trained in the Wilson Reading System and Nina Traub’s Recipe for Reading, which utilizes an Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction.

I taught for eleven years in a small, private school in Queens, New York. I was primarily a classroom teacher for preschool, 5th and 8th grades until I was approached by my principal to design and create a special education program for the school. I combined different models and strategies to create a specialized program that combined components of SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) and AIS (Academic Intervention Services) as well as teaching strategies geared towards ELL and ESL (English Language Learner & English as a Second Language) models. Each of my students was then given a personalized reading program designed to their individual needs. The same approach will be utilized when designing a specific literacy program for your child.
